North Florida Al Anon Family Groups - Public Outreach
Public Information:
Al-Anon Cooperation Web Site Sharing
The Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc. neither endorses, supports, nor
opposes these organizations and the events they sponsor. This information is
provided to help members reach more families and friends of alcoholics who may
learn about Al-Anon/Alateen through the World Service Office's cooperative
efforts with national alcohol and health related organizations.
The WSO Public Outreach Department has received requests for Al-Anon's
cooperation from the US Government's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment,
Partnership for Drug Free America, and Faces and Voices of Recovery. While
these organizations' Web sites list Al-Anon as a resource, they also recognize our
recovery stories are very helpful and inspirational to other family members.
On-line 'message carrying' also appeals to Al-Anon members who have access
to the Internet.
The Benefits to Potential Newcomers and to Al-Anon:
Posting our stories on-line increases the 24/7 availability of information
about Al-Anon/Alateen and family recovery for adult and teenage family members of
alcoholics. Professionals who have clients who are the relatives or friends of
alcoholics can also read about the benefits of Al-Anon through members'
stories. Due to the nature of the World Wide Web, on-line Al-Anon or 'family member in
recovery' stories can reach potential newcomers nationwide and around the
world.
Al-Anon's Pubic Relations Policies :
Al-Anon can cooperate without affiliating, endorsing, or promoting another
entity. Our 2004 2006 Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual cites policies approved by
Al-Anons World Service Conference (see page 73, Anonymity Outside of Al-Anon,
and pages 89 to 91, Al-Anon's Public Relations Policies). The complete Service
Manual is available in the Group Services section of the Members' Web site,
www.al-anon.alateen.org/members.
What About My Anonymity? Am I Breaking Tradition Eleven?
Your anonymity is protected and Tradition Eleven is maintained because the
organizations' Web sites provide options for submitting sharings that are in
agreement with Al-Anon's Public Relations and anonymity policies. Members have
the following choices:
1) Share as an Al-Anon member by using a first name, first name/last
initial, a pseudonym, or anonymous.
2) Share as a family member in recovery from a relative or friend's
alcoholism without revealing your Al-Anon membership. These stories may be
submitted using your full name and picture if you like.
These Web sites also have privacy statements which further protect the
anonymity of members by not disclosing your name, e-mail address, or any other personal
contact information.
