North Florida Al-Anon Family Groups

Area World Service Committee meeting

August 24 – 26, 2007

Area Web Coordinator Report

“I can trace a good number of my character defects and warped self-worth to my experiences in a system where I was not trusted.  It bred in me the demoralization referred to in the discussion of this Concept (3) found in our Al-anon/Alateen Service Manual.  I did not know that my submitting and smoldering, and eventually hateful rebellion toward my mom, stemmed from my not having any rights of decision in my family.  How grateful I am that my service in Al-Anon and my thirst for learning about it and how it works led me to this personal revelation.”

So, thank you.  Thank you for allowing me to serve in this position.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to discover what I need to learn about myself in order to grow.  I had no idea when I put my name in the hat for this job that I would gain so much.

Some of you have expressed awe at my abilities to tweak away at software programs that are foreign to you.  You say that you are not comfortable with or interested in computers.  I, in turn, am in awe of those of you who are so adept at managing the loving support of those of us endeavoring to be of service.  I could say that I am not really comfortable around most people. (Which is worse, to be uncomfortable around / uninterested in computers or people?)  I am in awe of the way this program works.

Working in service reminds me of my yoga classes.  With increasing regularity, I find myself in new uncomfortable positions and then my yoga teacher / service sponsor or sponsor comes over and pushes just a little harder.  Ouch!  I am blessed (and usually a bit sore in odd places).

The website has been updated regularly since mid-July, including the Guidelines for Conventions, “Red Light / Green Light”, the “Lite Side” and “Fun Shops”.   Thank you for your patience.   I hope to be able to continue to update the website on a timely basis.
