AWSC August 26, 2006 - Public Outreach Coordinator

Excerpts from the South Central Regional Service Seminar in Dallas, TX

ð    The 1st issue of “Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism 2007”, 168,475 messages of HOPE is HERE! Each of you have one in your basket and will receive more when I visit your district’s outreach planning committee meeting. Goal is for every Al-Anon to give one away.

ð    Label all issues with your own TAS and website.

ð     5 p.m. February 14th, 2007 is the deadline for the next shipping in time for April which is the National Alcohol Awareness Month and when schools study drugs, alcohol and sex.  Think Schools!

ð     Follow up with the folks you give the Forum to and ask them to write a story for next year’s issue directly on-line to WSO.   Have a workshop and write one yourself.

ð     Professionals used to say 12 steps are not evidence based. What we now realize is that our stories are our evidence. Not only for the professionals but for the start of our own recovery.

ð     Service Manual pages 73, 90 & 91 tell us how to tell our stories and respect tradition 11. It’s clear how to share either as a member or a non-member. Nothing is new since it was approved in 1978.

ð     A whole new world of electronic print is happening today. On-line sharing reaches anyone anywhere anytime. National Associations and Gov’t sites want our stories. If you don’t see any from Al-Anon, it is our responsibility to put it there! See pages 73, 90 & 91.

ð     Lois leads the way! Google Lois Wilson and you can find her story, even a new book of her biography. She’s leading the way into the future on-line.

ð     Safety on-line. Look at how your message will be posted. Read the privacy statement. Check your own email address. Sign your sharings as found on pages 73, 90 & 91.

ð     Love and hugs, Carolyn from Jax
